For a little history I have homeschooled all my kids so far. My oldest started a public charter school in 8th grade, next is still homeschool (10yo). I also have a boy almost 3yo and a new baby (5mo).
Eavan (3 in a few weeks) is not like any of my other kids. He is so energetic, outgoing, intense, full of life and LOVES to talk. We were doing pretty well and finding our way until the baby came and everything fell apart. It has been rough going here for a bit and I realized neither he or I were getting our needs met. I have a friend that was a Montessori preschool teacher before she started grad school. She has always said he is well suited for M.
Out of desperation I started calling M preschools. One didn't return my call, another was way too far away. A co-worker of my dh's gave him the name of a small M school that her SIL runs. I called and went and checked it out and it feels like it was made for us. I went in on Monday and started him on Tuesday.
He is the kind of kid that you can't give a long build up time to or everyone is miserable. I told him the day before and that was just enough time. He had one breakdown at school the first day because the other moms kept coming and going during drop off. He is still nursing so I think it was a bit much for him. They worked through it and he calmed himself down and they never had to call me.
He loved everything about it and was eager to go back today. He even wanted to go back after I picked him up and he had lunch.
The teacher validated that he is a natural fit to this style of learning. I am so relieved and pleased and overwhelmed by everything so far. I can't believe we found the perfect school for him and that it started out so well. I have a basic understanding of Montessori but now want to learn everything I can.
His behavior has turned around 180 degrees in the past two days. I think partly because he is worn out with a new adventure but I also think his needs are being met for the first time in months and he can relax.
I feel like I can breathe again. I never envisioned that I would put my 2 yo child in preschool 5 days a week but its what is working for us right now. I have to give him what he needs.
I look forward to being a part of this forum and sharing the adventure together.
