well, i did it ...

i went to the local yarn store yesterday and they set me up ... on some big, bulky yarn w/some big, fisher-price looking needles. the woman even got me started & casted on (proper grammar?) the entire first row for me, saying, "look, by the time you finish this long thing, you'll be a knitting fool and will have forgotten how to cast on, let me cast on for you, learn the knit stitch, THEN we can show you casting on..." and i know nothing, so, sure ...

i was doing great -- but last night after about three rows on my own i'd picked up about 5 extra stitches and now my stuff is tight and i can't get it going again. SO, i'm gonna go back today and beg for help ...

not that i expected to be perfect, mind you ... this is WAY MORE than i knew 36 hours ago, so it's all good ... but i really thought i had it!! my problem is when i finish a row and switch hands/needles to start knitting a new row. that's where i get flustered. the middle of the row is great and i even look like i know what i'm doing!

i might ask for ONE private lesson and see if i can bone up during that time, rather than just bogart their time for free, like i did yesterday.

OOOOH i was on such a tear -- i was sure i could finish that ball of yarn last night.

My honest opinion . . . try www.knittinghelp.com first.
