Tell me about the mucous plug....

Have you lost yours? Does it basically just look like mucous? Can you just have mucous and it not be the plug?

I think you can have mucus and not be the plug. I had a bunch of what looked like EWCM last week (like TONS) and called my MW asking about it. Well the day after I had tons of it, I felt the baby's head much lower in my pelvis. So, MW and I concluded that the baby was moving down, the cervix was adjusting (maybe even beginnign to thin perhaps) and the mucus was the result of the cervix working, but it wasn't a mucus plug. She says it's more "pluggish" if that helps any? But maybe some mommas who've BTDT can answer!

What do you figure "more pluggish" than regular mucous consists of? Mine is thick and yellow-ish.

With my first it seemed like it was more of a solid, more like one piece as opposed to just mucous. And there were definitely streaks of blood. Just a little though.

Still haven't lost this one yet though, and who knows, it could be totally different!

Hey,

About 3 days ago I also had rather a lot of EWCM with streaks of blood in it (mostly mucus though) and got terrible excited... but it was nothing "globby" - I've been reading that it can be a gradual process loosing the mucus plug! I just wish I knew if it was my mucus plug that is slipping out and when the whole birthing process is gonna start! Letting bub know that I am ready to meet him whenever he is!

It's funny though Teeny bc on Babycenter when they describe it they list a range...including what you experienced, and what I experienced my first pregnancy.

when I lost my plug (well parts of it) it wasn't globby, it was stringy. it was very mucusy and I lost it in the 2weeks before he was born. I have never had any show nor lost the entire thing that I'm aware of. this time I have lost mucus but I think it is just the same bit that keeps coming out and regrowing

I think every cp has a different idea of what constitutes as "the plug" my ob said any mucus was the plug (or parts of it) whereas my midwife says that unless its a huge glob with show it is just cm and not the plug (nor any part of it)

very confusing!

It is totally wierd!! But I guess that's how it all goes! My MW says you can attend 1000 births and still never know all there is to know about it and each one will be different!

I never noticed it until this time around, when I labored entirely at home. I had a feeling my water had broken already, so I knew it wasn't water. I only noticed it when I was having contrax on the toilet and wiped with tp.... It was clearish with a slight touch of pink - not much pink though. It was almost like the consistency of egg whites when you crack an egg.
