I a tooth with a hairline crack that is causing me a lot of pain, especially when I chew on that side. It's a lower molar. we think it cracked because I sometimes grind my teeth at night. I would just leave it, but it hurts pretty bad. I've only had 4 cavities in my life, and they never hurt, so I'm not sure how the pain compares to other tooth pain.

The dentist says I can have a crown placed, and if it doesn't help I can have a root canal - or I can go straight to a root canal.

If I have a root canal, the tooth will be more structurally weak than if I just have a crown. But if I just have the crown placed, there's a chance I'll still need a root canal.

WWYD?

is there another treatment option that wasn't offered to me?

update: I decided to have the root canal. the pain is pretty intense and happening all the time instead of just when I chew.. ugh.
