peace_laughing: your post about your (not-quite-)in-laws made my skin crawl! i'm so sorry you have to deal with that during this wonderful time, & glad that your DP doesn't let him get in the way. i hope that you're able to focus on the joy of your baby & your DP, & block out those negative vibes!
operamommy: as a first-timer, i had no idea that having membranes swept = giving birth! so, i missed your meaning. hope all goes well, & looking forward to seeing the pics of your new babe!

gunter: have an amazing time at your friend's birth! i was just thinking last night how neat it would be to attend someone else's birth...

i love watching homebirth videos on youtube. how'd your belly cast turn out - did you decorate it yet? i'm planning on doing my belly cast this weekend, i think! must commemorate this amazing change...i saw pics of my pre-pregnant body recently & could barely believe it, everything's so different! & to answer your question re: movement - yes, babe has definitely slowed down some. i still feel some bouts of intense movement (as you saw on the video!), but there seem to be fewer of them - there are now longer periods of silence in between. usually, the wee one is responsive to my thoughts, though - if i think, "you know, it's really been a while...is the baby ok?" usually he/she will move within a minute or two, which i think is great! the other day, though, he/she must've been really resting, & didn't move even when i started thinking, "hmmm..." so, i just jostled my belly until i got some movement...then of course i felt bad for disturbing the baby, but i wanted that little bit of reassurance!
i went to the city today to buy some sheets for our new bed & do some food-shopping. ended up feeling too tired to shop for food - after i bought sheets, i just came right home. should take a nap shortly, though it's a little chilly, since i have our windows open, and it's about 30 degrees here in NYC. why are they open? because our landlord painted our bathroom ceiling today since it was really starting to crack (if we didn't paint it the ceiling would have started flaking - bleah! - and i figured it was better to have the painting done now rather than in early march with tiny new baby lungs in the house). i'm glad that our bathroom is teeny - only about 50' square at most, so not a lot of surface area for paint - but i'm ESPECIALLY happy that we had her paint with sherwin-williams "harmony" paint, which is almost 0-VOC paint (no smell whatsoever, & very very low toxins - it's considered a top eco- & health-friendly choice). Even so, since there are no windows in the bathroom, i've got our windows open at either end of the apt for cross-ventilation to make sure any residual off-gassing goes OUTSIDE. DH will be
thrilledwhen he comes home to our freezing, blustery house. but oh well

how on EARTH did you late- or past-term mamas who worked your jobs through TODAY do it? teeny, you especially, working even past your due date? gosh, three weeks prior to EDD (which is standard at my workplace) seemed just right to me. i would happily have taken more if i could have. i cannot IMAGINE working through even this week (i'm 38 today). Hats off to y'all!
