OMG. Blech!!!!! Boo!!!!

Christina Aguilera says

I didn't want any surprises. Honestly, I didn't want any [vaginal] tearing. I had heard horror stories of women going in and having to have an emergency C-section [anyway]. The hardest part was deciding on his birthday. I wanted to leave it up to fate, but at the same time I was ready to be done early!
ETA: She'd rather guarantee her abdomen being torn in half, then risk the chance she *might* get a vaginal tear? I've given birth to four kids without any tears.

And these are supposed to be our kids' role models.

Really? I really don't think of pop stars as role models for my kids. I didn't even when I was a kid/teen. (Well, except for the way I dressed, but not for my life decisions.)

I just think there's something wrong with a system where a woman can go to her (trusted) health care provider and say, "I'm afraid to tear, what can we do about this?" and the response is, "Schedule major abdominal surgery."

Oh I totally agree with that part. It was just the role model part I didn't agree with.

I've never personally thought of celebrities as role models, but I (and you, lol) are definitely in the minority.

Most older children, teenagers, and young adults today follow pop culture like it is a religion. If the stars do it, so will they. If the stars condemn it, they do, too. It's very sad, really.

Even stuff like deciding how to have a baby? That seems so unreal to me! I could understand things like what music to listen to, how to dress, what accessories to buy, hell I'd even stretch to how to decorate your home, but I have a hard time understanding why anyone would look to a celebrity to help them decide what religion to be, who to marry, how to have a baby...important life choices. I know it is possible, just mind-blowing. How sad.

It just horrible. Just like the who trend of near term c/s so the stars don;t "suffer" from those last three weeks of pregnancy. Madonna and a few others had near term c/s by choice.

A friend tells E! that Christina, “was and still is really sore — [the c-section] was more painful than she thought”.
Um, yeah no kidding.

You know, I've heard urinating after childbirth can be painful too. Maybe I should ask my doctor to cut open my bladder instead, and remove the urine that way?

Bizarre!

Yeah. I've lost a smidge of admiration I once held for her.

I feel bad for her. She has heard the same horrible birth stories we all have, seen the same scary tv shows, had OBs who may or may not have given true informed consent, and was well aware of a high c-section rate even in moms planning for a vaginal birth. It sounds like she made this decision based in fear and then ended up being in quite a bit of pain afterwards. It isn't that hard to be caught up in that wave.... how many of us had less than unhindered births ourselves at some point? This was her first baby and it just sounds to me like she could have really used someone to talk with about her fears before the birth.

Well, at least she's breastfeeding. I picked up some tabloid at the checkout counter yesterday and it had Aguilera and Nicole Ritchie on it. Said they both were breastfeeding (as they showed their "sexy mommy bodies" on the same page).

Perhaps....she had to say something and "herpes" wasnt a good publicity move...?

OT...but did Nicole Ritchie have a vaginal delivery? I haven't read anything about her getting a c-section. I remember reading something vague about her having a vaginal delivery. If so, good for her.

I'm not surprised by anything out of Hollywood anymore.

She did have a vaginal delivery, and left the hospital that night.
And she is nursing.

Why is that funny? I don't find the idea that a woman, celebrity or not, has herpes funny nor the fact that she may have had to have a c-section because of it funny at all. She's still a person and I wouldn't laugh at anyone for having herpes.
