I know that some of the formula companies are coming up with a toddler formula for babies 9 months to two years old. So, they could be advertising the next step formula.

My other thought is that the bias in this culture is to wean from bfing between 6 and 9 months and switch to formula, so they are perhaps hoping you will give into that and choose their formula??

Because your baby isn't a year old yet and they still have 3 more months to potentially have you as a customer.

Lots of people find that the baby losese interest in nursing when solids are pushed too fast, so they fill in with formula since the baby isn't getting enough breastmilk. 9-11mo is also a prime age for nursing strikes, which can easily be misinterpreted as baby-led weaning. If your baby "weans" at 10mo, wouldn't you likely turn to the formula brand you have that big coupon for?

Ah interesting. So they have known about me all this time and have been lying in wait.

I was interested to see that it was for $10. I FF my first child (after attempting to BF) and I remember that at first it was $10 off, then $5 off, then a piddly $1 off every now and then.

I got one too at this time! It just really made me want free money, I must admit... I wish I could use it on anything at the store! I mean, who else just gives you money like that? These formula companies sure know their stuff, I guess! We had a good laugh at the ad copy about wanting the best for your child, worrying about what nutrition she's getting, etc. And we played "guess how they figured out we had a baby"--we decided it was our Target purchases.

I've gotten them from Similac and Enfamil in the past two weeks for my 19mo (who nurses) AND I've gotten Gerber coupons. I've never ever used any products from any of those companies for either of my kids. They've never had any kind of formula or baby food ever, not even rice cereal. I also get Huggies coupons and we exclusively cd and wash my own.

A lot of mainstream nursing moms wean around that age too. All the moms I know who nursed past newborn days weaned between 9-11 months. (Of course most of them were sending a baby to daycare at 11months too) They used formula until they hit the 12 month mark.
