Has anyone tried SAMe for PPD? My MD recommended it...with progesterone...just wondering what others experiences with it have been.

I read a book about it years ago for my dh. What was recommended was to first take a daily supplement of a high quality B complex because a deficiency in SAMe is most likely a deficiency in vit B-complex; the B complex is what is used by the body to make SAMe. It is apparently very rare to not be capable of producing SAMe with adequate vit b.
Dh started on B complex and after two weeks, his moods evened out completely. He had suffered over a decade of clinical depression and various anti-depressants previous to beginning vit. b. He went completely off his meds and was 'cured' of his depression, but now, almost 6 yrs later, he's been lax about taking his B, and he's on a roller-coaster again, and it's driving *me* up the wall
.
I'm now working on a total switch to traditional foods so he won't need supplements for adequate vitamin intake/absorption- and of course for our whole family's health.
Taking SAMe might be a bandaid for now, but if it were me, I would skip it and take vit. B complex before assuming my body couldn't make it naturally.
