Flu update...it's NOT the flu

For those of you who have been reading the daily check-ins, you already know that I was 4 cm dilated, 75% effaced and ready to drop the baby out last weekend, especially after lots of prodromol labor. Well, then I woke up on Monday and was SICK AS A DOG, and have been dead to the world all week...praying each day to NOT go into labor, even as I passed my due date by yesterday (2/14).

Well, I went to the doc today, and she took one look at me and said that there was no way it was the flu if I was still so sick after 5 days. It definitely had to be a bad viral infection. So the good news is that now I know why I don't feel better at all on day 5. The bad news is that she said these things just have to run their course, and all I can do is rest and hydrate.

TGIF because with DH home this weekend, I can finally get some uninterrupted rest (ain't it great how mamas can't take a sick day!) So I am headed to bed now, and am praying that labor will still hold off another few days, or maybe a week or more.

I'm still a complete 4 cm and 75% effaced with a very soft (but still posterior) cervix, but I have been SO inactive (there goes all that posturing from spinningbabies.com down the drain, baby has moved completely to the right this week) that I think that is helping stall labor.

Interestingly, after so much early labor last weekend, my body pretty much shut down on Mon as far as labor prep goes, and I had NO ctx Mon, Tues, or Wed. They started up a bit yesterday, and today I had more and even have a bit of cramping, but it's still nothing like last weekend, so I may still get a little while out of this pregnancy, if I am lucky.

Anyway, just wanted to post a more clear update than the 1- to 2-liners I've been managing on the daily check-ins.

Though I've been too sick to keep up much, know that I have been thinking of you all this week and of these little babes who are so close now!!

Thanks for listening!

isn't the flu a virus?

it's great how your body knew that it was time to hold off until you got better. hope your recovery goes well and by the time your body/baby decide to come you are in perfect stomach health!

I'm confused... I had always heard that the flu makes you sick for like 2 weeks? I have never had it...but that's what I have always thought..

Healing vibes your way mama! I'm sorry you have to deal with all this right now but at least your body will be ready to start to have this baby when you are doing better, it really sounds like this little one is just waiting for you to be ready.

Yeah, it is a virus, but it is a separate type of infection from what I have, apparently. Either way, I'm thankful that it's not a bacterial infection, because the last thing I want to put in my body right now is antibiotics to strip my insides! Thanks for the healthy vibes!

I think it does in some people, but because I was so close to delivery, I consented to take Tamiful, which is a strong anti-viral, but only works on the actual flu, not other viruses, apparently. So after taking it for 5 days, I should have been feeling pretty close to normal, according to my doc.

Ironically, since it's not the actual flu, i have had no stomach troubles, which is probaby why I didn't puke out a baby! My doc did say that people usually go into labor when they get so sick, and she was surprised that my body shut labor down instead (Thank goodness!!!). I mainly just have full body aches, chills, a weird cough, and extreme fatigue.

Thanks so much for your kind words and support! It really does help!!

BTW, I went to bed last night at 9:30, and DH promised to let me sleep till I woke up...which was 9:30 this morning!!! Yep, I actually just slept for nearly 12 hours (have to subtract out bathroom trips, of course) I'm eating now, and looking foward to some more rest as soon as my food digests! I think I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel, if I can keep this rest up this weekend.

Again, thanks everyone for the support! It truly does help a lot!
