make your own xylitol toothpaste

I've got this big bag of xylitol my mom got me. I don't injest it since it gives me incredible intestinal cramps, but it is supposed to be anti-bacterial and good for your teeth. Any one make their own toothpaste with xylitol?

No, but I have pondered the idea of making a mouth rinse with it, never have gotten around to it. toothpaste is a great idea too. I buy xylitol toothpaste and it's not cheap & it's hard to find in flavors my ds will use. I don't see why it couldn't be added to any basic toothpaste recipe.

I also don't use floride, and would prefer no sodium laural sulphate, so making my own is attractive to me.

yes the spry toothpaste from vitacost doesn't have fluoride in it either.

not sure about the sodium laural sulphate

I think spry has a website but I'd have to look at it again to know for sure.

but I'd still be curious about making my own for cost reasons!

spry's ingredients
Quote:
Ingredients: Purified Water, MAXXylitol (Maximum Strength Xylitol), Hydrated Silica, Sorbitol, Vegetable Glycerin, Natural Spearmint Oil, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Calcium Glycerophosphate, Calcium Lactate Gluconate, Titanium Dioxide, Cellulose Gum, Stevia, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Sodium Benzoate, Aloe Vera Gel, Parsley Seed Oil
so still not all natural but better than the other "regular" toothpastes out there.

We dip our toothbrushes in the xylitol powder. My 3 y/o love it! You can also just mix it with a little water and rinse with it.

where do you get your xylitol powder from?
I usually get it from Wild Oats.

Did you know xylitol can be fatal to dogs and cats, even in very small amounts?? If you have pets, I would make sure to keep it very secure from them. It makes me wonder if it is healthy for humans?

chocolate is also toxic to dogs so I don't worry about that as much - from what I've read it's good for humans but if you hear anything contradictory please post!
