Birth Music Mix

Anyone else want to share their music preferences for a Birth Mix?

I am on Rhapsody.com right now working on my playlist. DH started it for us a few weeks ago.

I was a doula for my friend and her DH (who are in a band) that played The Innocence Mission through most of her labor. It was so fabulous that I always said i would have to have it at my next labor! As odd as it sounds, The Cure is on it, too b/c "just like heaven" is DH and I's "song" from college.

I was just thinking about this actually, because I was listening to a song (I think it's called The Sun Goes Down, by David Jordan) which could be fantastic to birth to.

I had my ipod on for the labour, only took it off to go to the bathroom, and it felt- honestly- like every single song on there had the same beat. Lots of Levellers, some Arcade Fire, and the last song I was listening to, just as I hit transition, was The Finish Line by Snow Patrol (I still have the line "the finish is the start" stuck in my head.) Some things you can't make up.

that is awesome about the timing. what arcade fire did you like during labor? i am a fan.

Erm... yes? Given that I had somehow managed to turn the shuffle function off of my iPod, I believe the last hour went something like (in reverse order...);
Snow Patrol: the finish line
Levellers: fifteen years
Levellers: far from home
Green Day: extraordinary girl (I think? May have skipped, but probably not...)

The Verve: the drugs don't work. I'm sure I didn't skip it, it's one of my favourite songs.
There's a lot of Rasputina in between C and F on my ipod as well, and then I know I listened to Crown of Fire. But at one point I was listening to L's, because I wanted to hear Last Summer by the Lost Prophets. I don't know, I don't remember that clearly.

I didn't have music by the end of DS's birth, the cord got unplugged and no one noticed to plug it back in. My sister pushed to a crazy "blue man group" cd with all these tribal sounds on it, so that was kind of fun.

Being 40 weeks, 3 days today, I really need to figure out what I'm going to use this time, huh.

OOOOH, I love Jack Johnson! DH and I are totally corny and spend a reasonable amount of time singing and playing guitar for this little one. He's bringing his guitar to the hospital so we plan on singing for her during labor (perhaps a bit ambitious, lol). We have a hypnobirthing CD and lots of instrumental, relaxing type stuff. Some classical, some animal/nature type songs too (whales, etc). But we ARE bringing the ipod if I feel like rockin' out a bit too, LOL!!
