Remotec control trains?

I'm hoping this is the right place to post this..

DS wants a remote control train for his birthday in April. We already have a train table w/wooden tracks to I was hoping to find an engine that is r/c that would fit w/these tracks. I think they are battat - I know that they are not Thomas or Brio - I don't know if that matters. anyone have any idea if this exists and/or where to get it?

I think you can get that sort of thing at a craft/hobby store. I know I've seen some elaborate train set ups in my local hobby store.

There are Thomas engines with a battery and an on/off switch (not r/c). They are intended for the blue plastic tracks but work alright on the wood ones. I do think brio has an r/c engine. I looked at one for my ds but decided against it based on reviews that said it had trouble going up hills.

We were given a GeoTrak (sp?) set last year. At first, I was horrified by this BIG plastic set but it's grown on me. It's really big so it doesn't easily fit on our train table. It's pretty sturdy, though, and my son can fit the pieces together. We've never used the remote, though. In fact, Chris didn't even know there was supposed to be one until he saw a commercial for the product a year later.

We have a lot of fun with our lego trains. They have a remote control version and a 9v plug in version.

or you can build your own and "kid-power" them.

Ds had an RC Brio train - real remote, turn on, go forward/backward, light on, horn on. Pretty nifty
