Reusable makeup remover pads

I wear eyeliner and mascara every day, so I go through quite a few cotton rounds between that and my ACV toner. I'd like to switch to something I can toss in the laundry, and I was thinking of making some little flannel face wipes.

Has anyone done this? What fabric did you use? Did you back them? I'd like something soft but *too* absorbent, as I don't want to be using more of the remover than I have to. Also, I'm a little nervous about just cutting up flannel and having the edges fray - do I need to put tape on the edges? I have a sewing machine, but I don't really know how to pin things properly for edges, etc.

Also, for those of you who use olive oil to remove eye makeup, will I have trouble getting the olive oil to rinse out of the cloth? I'm planning on switching to olive oil as soon as I run out of the conventional remover.

Blairhoney, I use little organic cotton fleece squares instead of cotton pads to apply my aspirin toner, but I haven't used them for oily eye makeup removal so I can't tell you about that. (I sometimes use oil to remove my eye makeup but then just wash it off.)

The fleece is great because it's kind of thick, and also because I didn't have to sew it - I just cut it into little squares with scissors and it really doesn't fray other than a few loose threads the first time they're washed.

I use 4" X 4" fleece squares for cloth toilet paper (#1 only in case you're wondering) and just cut a few of those into 4 squares to use instead of disposable cotton cosmetic pads. I wash them in the machine in a mesh laundry bag to keep them together.

HTH.

I can't sew anything, so I crochet some cotton yarns to make it like cotton balls. Love the texture and it is completely washable!!

Thanks! Those sound like a great idea. I'm not sure if the oil will come out though... has anyone had any experience getting oil out of cotton fleece?

If only I weren't totally inept at crochet-ing...
