Reading to children in another language - confusing?

I have a 3.5 year old and I am thinking of getting some books in French to read to her (I'm bilingual). I do not speak the other language regularly at all.
Do you think this would be a good thing or just confuse the heck out of her? Anyone else done this?

My partner reads stories to our kids in Polish and then translates the sentence into English. They think it's interesting for a few minutes, but they get bored eventually.

It's not going to hurt her, but I wouldn't make any assumptions about her actually learning French. I'd check some French books out of the library to show her what French sounds like - because that's just cool. If she's interested, she'll ask for more. If she actually wants to understand the story, she'll probably ask you to read it in English.
