Where do we all live? - Page 4

We're in Abingdon just south of Oxford. I see a few crunchy folks around here breastfeeding on the bench under the tree by Woolworths or with mei tais and wraps and wonder if maybe they are on MDC too!

They might be on MDC, but I bet at least one of them comes to LLL and SlingMeet in Oxford!

I'd be keen to meet some other MDC mums/moms in the area. If people are interested, I can try to organize something or other in Oxford in a few weeks. Or we've never been to Cambridge and are always talking about how we mean to go...

You're probably right! I went to a small sling meet in Abingdon about 18 months ago but I haven't been to any of the Oxford ones as we are sort of out of slings now and going round in different circles like school and home ed which makes the time of some things difficult.

We are in Oxford once a week with other home edders at SOAP on Whitehouse Road if you ever want to come and talk to anyone about home edding

A meet up would be fab!

(But I'm not very crunchy so don't shoot me!)

Yep. A meet-up would be good, and Oxford would be great for me. I was about to ask if anyone else was going to the Organic Food Festival in Bristol next weekend?

happy to see so many Americans!

I just posted an intro but I'll post here too :-)

We're Canadians who are currently living in Seattle, WA. We've been here just under 3 years.
We're relocating to London for my husband's job at the beginning of November.

his office is in Camden, we'd like to live as close as possible to the office but with 5 kids I'm thinking we may need to look a bit farther afield. Any tips on where is a good area to live with kids? We're very AP, unschoolers and would like a family friendly area, not too pricey ( I hear that this may well be impossible and so am prepared for it!*grin*) where we have access to shops and transport links in to DHs office and where we can hopefully get by without a car. Any North Londoners have an opinion on whether I'm totally nutty and have unreasonable expectations?

I'm open to any and all suggestions!
It feels good to see so many ex pats here! I'm super excited to get to the UK and start exploring and meeting people.

Warmly,
xo

You might be in luck - North can be much cheaper than South. Try looking in Hackney. Or just north of Camden. Don't go West of Camden, it will get way too expensive.

*waves hello*

hi everyone!

DP and I are new to the UK. he has citizenship because his mom was born here, but she left when she was 15 so this is the first time he's lived here. we're canadians as well, from southern ontario, and right now we're living in frimley green. it's a little town near camberley in surrey, but at the end of this month we're moving, probably to woking, still in surrey. DP works in frimley and i'm currently job hunting so woking is driveable distance to his office and commutable to london on the train should i wind up working there.

DP owns his own business and works from home usually, but he's doing an office contract while we're in the UK this year. we're here for about a year and then it's back to canada for 12-18 months to tie up some things, then after we get married in october 2010 we're moving here for good. we don't have any littles yet, but when we do they'll be homeborn and homelearned as well.

it looks like there's a big north american expat community here, which makes me feel a little more relaxed about such a huge move.

nice to meet you all!

I used to live in abingdon (just south of oxford) until last year and may be one of the MT mamas people have seen around

I now live in the Isle of Man (half way between liverpool and belfast) and I think I am the only person on the island with a MT although I have seen a couple of mamas with ring slings. When me and my DH go out each wearing a DD in a MT we get all sort of strange looks, it is very funny!!! I also make a point of NIP whenever I can simply because no-one else seems to do it

Oooo I know Frimley Green... seems weird to see it described as a town, cos it wasn't when I was a child (near) there... I was tiny though - lived the first 8 years of my life in Farnborough at me
