Cephalohematoma on toddler's head

About 15 months ago I delivered my son. It was a difficult delivery and my OB used forceps. I think that his head was incorrectly positioned and pounding on my left pubic bone because I had pain there that was so bad it wasn't affected by my epidural and was absolutely unbearable. After delivery he had some bruising. About two weeks later I noticed a swelling on his head on the right side. I spoke to the doctor about this and he confirmed it was not there (or he didn't notice it) when he looked at my son. A few days later it got really hard and they told me that it was calcifying. Our pediatrician says it poses no heath problems, but because it calcified it will be there forever most likely.

I am just curious how difficult the surgery would be to remove a cephalohematoma and if there would be substantial scarring from the procedure. Also, are there any other ways to treat this?

Thank you!!

well I guess you would have to talk to a plastic surgeon
but why not wait and see what your baby's head is going to look like after he has fully developed?
there are many risks to surgery and it would be purely a cosmetic thing.

hmmm....
my son had the same thing...but I seem to remember my ped talking about how it would go from soft to kind of hard because it needed to calcify so that the body could absorb it. He'll be 2 in a few weeks and I noticed a couple of months ago that it had gone away completely.
I would suggest doing some research (you may have already) on how they go away...and wait to see if nature will take care of it's self...it might take longer than a year or so.
good luck!

My 2.5 year old has one. You can only tell if you touch it because his hair covers it up. Is your sons especially large and noticable? I would wait it out if I were you, as my son's head has grown it has spread out and gotten flatter.
