Knitting my first soaker

I'm having a terrible time choosing a pattern! There are sooo many - free and otherwise - that I just don't know where to begin.

I need something relatively easy - I can do a lot of techniques and I'm not opposed to learning new ones, but I'm not a very "practiced" hand.

I'd like something that practically finishes itself, and that knits up quickly.

I've seen the LTK patterns, and I like the way the original and the skirt pattern look. I've seen a couple patterns that just look too square to fit a baby.

What's your favorite soaker pattern? Or, what was your first soaker pattern, and would you do that pattern again?

My first soaker was knit flat and my math went screwy somewhere and it ended up big enough for a 10 yo. I bought the sheepy soaker pattern and so far I like it.

I'll be knitting my first soaker this Wednesday, and I've picked the Curly Purly to start with. It's done in the round and the examples I've seen are pretty darn cute. If that one goes well, I plan to buy the LTK one, I love the way it looks!

I did the one from punk knitters first. It was the first thing I ever knitted, other than my little square where I learned to cast on, knit, purl and cast off, I was happy with how it turned out.

I want to try the Curly Purly one too.

Hi all, I am a bit of a lurker but I wanted to post a pic of the first soaker I knitted (no buttons sewn on yet). It is for my new niece (no babies of my own yet) but I think it is way too big, I knitted it from a yahoo group pattern in bulky yarn that I just love. I am worried about it's use as a soaker because it is 58% wool and 42% acrylic. I didn't know you should use 100% wool till after I knitted it. So now I am looking around to buy some good wool to make her a better one, only problem is I don't know what to choose! lol too many choices. Anyway here is a link to the pictures.

I taught myself to knit about a year ago and I am just getting more and more addicted to yarn as time goes on.

My first was the Tiny Birds Organics free pattern. It is knit flat and sewn. I hadn't tried knitting in the round at th at point. But, once I knit one in the round (using the Picky Pants from LTK), I couldn't go back. The fit and pattern are a dream!!

Do you knit in the round? If so, I would definitely recommend a pattern written that way.

My first was actually a combination of several different patterns, one of which was LTK's Ribby Wrap (for the crotch ribbing). I love how it turned out, you can see pictures on my blog. I've also done LTK's Ribby Wrap, although I have not put the buttons on yet, so no pictures (although I can post some this afternoon if you like).
