My mom: thumbs up...MIL: thumbs down...

Lotsa breastfeeding talk over the weekend. First w/my mom...we were out to lunch on Saturday and I had a bottle of EBM, she offered to feed Jake. Well, I noticed that she was holding the bottle right at her nipple and she was holding him tummy-to-tummy in the breastfeeding position. I asked, "mom, have you always feed your babies like that, or are you just holding him like that because you've seen me do it?" She said she always held her babies like that (me and my sis) and even other babies when she had her in-home day care. She said, "this is how you're supposed to hold babies." I told her that MIL holds him "out" with both arms "out" and tries to teach him how to hold his bottle (Hello....!? He's only 6 mos!) My mom thinks that's strange.

Well, then I was talking to MIL on the phone on Sunday and I was telling her about Jake's 6 mo. check-up. She asked me how long I was going to nurse and I said *at least* a year and she said, "oh, I figured you'd stop now that he has teeth."

(Well, he's had teeth for 2 months and that hasn't stopped me, yet!!!)

Glad to hear your mother sees the value in cuddling the babies.

Not surprised about your MIL. She seems to be stuck in the time she raised her children in.

Next time she comes over, remember to pull out & put on your MIL filter.
