In addition to local children's resale shops, I do a lot of shopping at the Lands End website. Not the new stuff, because its too expensive. But their closeout section is really great. However, you have to keep checking because it changes so fast! But I think the best shopping I do (combining price and convenience) is at the local children's resale shop. Its safe, its clean, and they have great stuff. Plus, they'll buy it back when I'm done!

I have an informal arrangement that works out really well with a good friend who is loaning me lots of hand-me-downs as her son outgrows them. Meanwhile, I give her "hand-me-ups" which are mostly new clothes that I've received as gifts that are too big for ds or other oversized clothes given to me by friends. She loans me much more than I loan her, but I think it's a fair swap because the things she receives are usually new.

Try to find a friend with a baby about 6-9 months older than yours. It's best if you know that person well and you can trust each other to use the clothes gently.
