The Patriarch who gave you your blessing files a copy with church headquarters. You have to ask them (headquarters) for a copy. Your bishop should know how to go about doing that

Having spent some time in the Church History Library, I know a little about this. This website is explains a lot, although I'm sure your bishop also knows.

It also explains how to get a patriarchal blessing for a deceased relative, if anyone's interested in that. It's essentially the same process, but takes longer.

I always love when this question is asked. In my former life I copied patriarchal blessings for deceased relatives and lost ones. Everyone is correct that they have copies in the church archives. The church archives are actually having their own building being built for them. They were talking about it when I worked there, 9 years ago I always loved to go look at the old books that the original members blessings were in.

I want to get DS a digital camera for christmas. (yes, we are thinking about that--we've got to order things sooner rather than later or they won't get here!) Anyway, it needs to be inexpensive, yet hopefully sturdy...doesn't need a ton of memory, but it does need a view-screen... any recommendations?

So ... totally random thought ... if you, as a member of the Church, had to enter the witness protection program would you need to get rebaptized and go through all of the ordinances and temple ceremonies again? Would you need to be reordained to the priesthoods? Would it be lying if you provided your new ward with a "false" name?

Again, a totally random thought spurred by yesterday's Pearls Before Swine comic strip.

You're right, that is random. It seems a bit frivolous to me to be rebaptized when you haven't been excommunicated, but what do I know? And I don't think it would be lying to a new ward if you really and truly have changed your name. That is your new name now, so it would be okay.

Maybe you should bring this up in Sunday School for discussion and liven things up a bit. Reminds me of a Simpson's episode where Bart asks his teacher about an amputated limb waiting for you in Heaven.

I've wondered that before, but couldn't figure out which made the most sense. I guess there's no way to change the person's name on the church records without there being a paper trail.

If you had to be rebaptised, you would also have to go through the temple and be sealed again, if you had done those things. And you wouldn't be able to do any work for your ancestors. And you could get another patriarchal blessing.

NCD that is freakin funny. Thank you, I needed something amusing tonight.

I just got a very polite PM from a moderator telling me that she'd edited my signature to remove the links to my blog because my blog has a link to my etsy shop so it's advertizing...
I have had SO many PMs and blog comments from MDCers who appreciated my posts about miscarriage and vaccination and I am so sad that the policies here are that tight. I think in their efforts to spare us spam they missing the forest for the trees, you know? I mean, a lot of you have been on my blog...yeah, sometimes I talk about etsy, but did anyone ever feel like that was my main goal there? Are my etsy links offensive to you?! I wrote back and I confess I was a little snarky. I asked if a blog with a link to Ezzo in the sidebar was more appropriate for an MDC sig than my blog with a link to my (cloth diaper/cloth pad-filled) shop.
I'm just really frustrated. : I'm not going to break rules, I just think that some rules need to be re-thought...and I told her just that.
And if I totally disappear forever, well, I probably got ousted from MDC for insubordination.


As if I needed one more thing this week...my computer died on tuesday... apparently it's a flaw in the actual hardware. Thankfully, even though the warrenty expired last month, HP is still going to take it and do the repair for free because the flaw was there all along, even though it (for whatever reason) didn't surface until now. So that's several hundred $$ saved, thank heaven! The downside is that (in spite of the fact that my internet is working for once) I'm not able to use it because my computer imploded!!! I can use the computers at the school...if I pack up the baby and hike over there in the rain (and then chase the kiddo around the school because all the doors swing and none of them latch). Yeah, not gonna happen daily. DH is a sweetie and brought home his work compie over the weekend for me, but during the week I'll probably be pretty quiet.

Do you legally change your name, or just use a different one? I guess legally changing it would leave a paper trail, right?
I think if you're just using a different name, then you use it...like a nickname, or like someone who goes by their middle name... I don't think any ordinances would/should be redone.
It's true though, it might be simpler to just go inactive. Hmmmmm.

well, I've had the signature that way for probably 8-9months, so obvirously it takes a while for them to notice...
The admin responded to me and said thanks for being so nice about it, and here's a thread clarifying... http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=972206 basically (as someone on that thread stated) "the defacto policy is stricter than the written one" and obviously I'm not the only one who's been bothered by the way the policy is being carried out.

Guess what else? Our PHONE is out too...several phones in town are (this happens sometimes)...but I have no phone and no compter (internet) during the week... ARGHHH! The phone will probably be up within a few days--it usually is. The computer issue is likely to be a month.
Oh well, I should be sewing more anyway.
