Just learned to knit...(need increase help)

now trying to make a baby afghan. So the pattern says to cast on 94 stiches. Knit 3 rows but on the last row evenly add in 12 more stitches. I haven't done any increasing before so how exactly do I go about this? Should I divide 12 into 94 and put in an extra stitch? Help please!

Are you confused about the increase or the math? For the math, 12 doesn't go evenly into 94, but it does go into 96. So you could fudge it a bit, and increase after every 8 stitches, except for two sections where you increase after only 7 stitches. You'll need to increase at the beginning of the row, too. You need 12 more stitches, TOTAL, so at the end of the increase round you should have 106 stitches. Make sense?

As to how to increase, the pattern should tell you (M1, kfb, etc.) but if not, or for future reference, the best pics and instructions (and videos) I know for increasing and decreasing are at www.knittinghelp.com. So use that for reference.

HTH!

Just wanted to add that a m1 increase will be invisible, while a kfb will show (it looks like a kinda slanty stitch on stockinette). If the pattern does not specify, pick the one that you think looks best.

Thanks a bunch ladies! It is kinda fuzzy yarn so I don't think it needs to be invisible. And I appreciate the link. I love the internet when it comes to stuff like this!
