Balancing hormones act: Progesterone. creams?

(Edited with morning clarity...)

I've been taking Provera (5 day regimen) for a few months because I never get AF on a regular basis.
This month when I took it, I got out my little saliva microscope to see what was going on. And apparently I experienced an estrogen surge on my last two days of Provera, and one day afterwards. If that's a sure sign of impending ovulation in women with normal cycles, what does that mean for somebody with a ton of synthetic progestin surging through their system? I HOPED that it meant I was about to ovulate... and I did have some tell tale pinches on the right side of my abdomen.

It is now day 10 after stopping the Provera, and I think I'm FINALLY getting my AF. (Last times I took Provera, AF came within days or hours of finishing.)

I've just about had it with using Provera. The acne alone (shows up after the drop) is killing me. It just seems to be such a strong punch of hormone for me.

Since I experienced an estrogen surge *while* taking the Provera, can I take it to mean that I am irregular because of deficient levels of progesterone, and that I just need to continue with progesterone therapy? (My ob/gyn wants me to try clomid eventually, and I would like to avoid that if possible.)

Has anyone had success using a natural USP progesterone cream post-ovulation? I'm wondering if that is just the ticket.
And, for anybody familiar with saliva microscopes -- they *only* show estrogen surge, right? Or was that some correlation to the Provera?

Any and all thoughts appreciated.

Oh, that crazy making hormone rollercoaster ride. Sorry I have no answers, but I think now that you've got your questions all organized you might be in a better position to get the info you need from your RE? ob/gyn?

Good luck!
