LOL! I just came here to ask if anyone had a sock monkey knit pattern. I found one online but it was over $7. I don't mind paying that, but it would be even better to find a free one.

The closest I've seen is a crochet pattern for a sock monkey puppet (ravelry). If you do want to do longies or shorties it would probably be pretty fun to do on your own though. Just use the tan color to start at the waist and when you start doing some butt short rows, switch to cream and then finally one tiny area of red, back to cream and that ends the short rows. Continue with the tan for the rest and then when all done you could stick some eyes on there where appropriate. Maybe do the bottom of the legs in cream too. Okay, sorry if that sounded totally confusing, but I can see it in my head, honest!

I found a knit one too!

I just did a pair of these. I used the LTK Picky Pants pattern with increases and short rows. I used a picture of the Crankypants sock monkey pants to copy. (I know, major copyright violations, but these aren't to sell or anything). I skipped the first set of short rows in the pattern and only did the second, in red, for the mouth. For the eyes, I did intarsia in black. This was sort of a pain since I was knitting in the round, but since the area of black was so small, I just dropped the yarn, kept knitting the round, and picked the black yarn up again when I needed it. It might have been easier just to do the eyes with a duplicate stitch. I used Cascade 220 in a beige/white twist color instead of plain brown...it looked more sock monkey-ish.

They turned out really cute. Good luck!
