TF Calcium supplement?

Anyone know of a good liquid calcium supplement? Without dairy, wheat, corn, or soy?

We have food allergies and I can NOT swallow pills to save my life. If they are tiny, it's ok, but otherwise I choke and almost die every time. TIA

How about a powder that you mix with water? NOW makes several different calcium powders that are unflavored and don't contain any other ingredients. I like calcium citrate--it's a little gritty mixed with water but doesn't really have a flavor.

I use KAL dolomite powder. You can stir it into juice or whatever. It is allergen free and has a nice cal/mg ratio. Also, it's cheap!

Thanks! I will look into that. I have calcium citrate right now, but they are horse pills and I literally choke to the point of not being able to breathe when I take them. I have some issues with swallowing pills.

We use the Orange flavored liquid Time Life or Life Time liquid. I get it for like $4 a bottle from iherb.com. Chris Masterjohn, the guy who writes for the WAPF journal, recommended it to me, and we're really happy with it.

Do you not like dolomite? Just curious why Chris recommends this...thanks!

My understanding is that dolomite is no longer recommended, as it isn't as well absorbed as once thought. I was told that it was being removed from the revision to NT.

oh my! what do you think of standard process cal/mag?

I'm sorry- I'm not familiar with standard process, since many of their products aren't gluten free. I'd ask on Native Nutrition, since there's a lot of knowledgable people on there.

sorry to be annoying about this, but cal/mg supplementation is very important to me (I'm dairy free). Which Life Time liquid do you use/did Chris recommend?:

Life Time, Coral Calcium Fossilized Liquid from Okinawa Natural Orange Vanilla Flavor

OR

Life Time, Liquid Calcium Magnesium Citrate Natural Orange Vanilla Flavor

Thanks!

Why is cal/mag supplementation even necessary? I personally take extra magnesium because of my fibromyalgia (it helps lessen muscle pain) but how much calcium do healthy people really NEED and why can't it be absorbed through foods? Why not bone broth daily instead of milk daily?

I use bone broths a lot, but I have problems with calcium intake. Especially being soy and dairy free, I get leg cramps a lot from it. And cavities like crazy from nursing and pg constantly and not much calcium intake.

Maybe you're right, but I don't manage to eat broth every day and if I get pg. and am still nursing (very probable) I feel that I need to cover my bases. Traditional cultures often ate BONES too (fish, pies with the entire bird in them bones and all) and I don't do that (yet...)

Do you like sardines or other small fish that are eaten with the bones? When I prepare salmon (canned) I smush up the bones and mix it in with the meat and then make it into salmon patties or salad.

But if you're pg and/or nursing with a history of tooth decay, then it does sound like supplementation is a good idea (though it may not have been necessary if you'd been eating TF your entire life.) Just make sure to get enough magnesium and vitamin D along with the calcium, so it's fully absorbed.

I already have the Mama Calm Magnesium which I love. I just need the calcium, too. And ex-nay on the bones. See above about me choking easily.

Life Time, Liquid Calcium Magnesium Citrate Natural Orange Vanilla Flavor is it. Their other flavors have more calcium and less magnesium, if I recall correctly.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but aren't there also concerns about the lead content of dolomite?

KAL brand supposedly tests for heavy metals.

My midwife recommended A to B Calm. It's a cal/mag that dissolves in hot water and you drink it like a tea. It has vinegar in it to help with absorption. I really think it works.
