My first cable!

this thing makes me so happy.

I had to do a horseshoe cable for my masters thing so I sat down last night and finished it up super fast. I'm surprised at how quickly they go (at least that one ). There is another cable I need to do for the swatches and it's a simpler one but I did this one first since I needed to do it in the same yarn and needle set up as my first 3 and wanted to make sure I got all of them done first.

Here it is! It needs blocked super bad because there are purl stitches on each side of it. You just can't see them.

So last night I got to thinking about my new cable book (Stitchonary 2) and a possible project I'm working out the details on right now and decided to improvise a little bag this morning. I managed to finish it by this afternoon. This is all off then top of my head and I am damn proud considering it's 1. totally original and without any sort of pattern on my end and 2. it's only my second cable.

Voila!

I'm sitting ehre pretty proud of myself tonight and DH isn't doing nearly enough to boost my ego. :

Why are you awake right now Helen? Hmmmmm.....

I read your birth story. I told DH about it and quoted a few parts and he was laughing and said you wrote it very well.

Your cables are lovely! I just finished my first cable project - a lovely spa cloth. I'll post pics here and on Ravelry. I twisted a couple of stitches here and there but all in all, it came out pretty good. It was awkward at first managing the cable needle with my other needle but I got into the groove. Let me ask you though, is it easier if the cable needle is about the same width as your knitting needles? I was using a very skinny CN as it was the only one I had and it kept slipping out of the stitches.

I really like cable knitting!

How did you make it this far without doing cables?! They rock. Yours look wonderful, especially for a newbie!!

They look great! Watch out, though. Cables are addicting!

I imagine so. I was using a couple dpn's and then for my cable needle I used one in the same size from my interchanagable kit.

I love love love the horseshoe- it is the same as on a couple of sweaters I finished in January- but I was much too lazy to use a cable needle- did you try without one? Much simpler I think!

I watched the video on doing it without and decided that just seemed like too much work.

It looks fabulous! You go you cable-knitter you!

I thought it was faster/less fiddly to skip the cable needle when using DPN.

But now that I'm magic looping it seems a bit more difficult without the cable needle...

Okay, here is a picture of my first cable. This is a spa cloth (aka face cloth) which I just finished the other day. It was a fun project and I do think I am addicted to cable! This one was easy...I'm sure other styles are more challenging. But I'm up for the challenge!
