Yeah, I have to say that Small's book was the one that influenced our thoughts about parenting more than anything else. Before reading it we didn't know anyone with kids, weren't invested in any particular philosophy of parenting, hadn't read much on the subject, never heard of co-sleeping.
Dh is a scientist, and he really liked the way Small looked at the subject so objectively. I think it's ideal to read it before kids, because after...well, it's pretty tough to find the time to read, particularly in those early months. And it was Small's writing about babies that really influenced the way we approached life with ds from day one.
