Come together with other moms from the Capital District to show your
support for Kristin Kelly, a mom who was asked to leave the New York
State Museum for breastfeeding her 4 month old son in public.

We will be meeting inside of the NYS Museum at 10:30am this Friday,
February 22nd. This is not a demonstration, but rather a show of
support. Specifically, "Events that may interfere with public use
during business hours are prohibited," according to their website.

It is not our intention to disrupt their business. While enjoying the
museum with our breastfeeding children, we will be using an
opportunity to share relevant information about breastfeeding in New
York State.

AGENDA:

Get there!
Parking & directions: http://www.nysm. nysed.gov/ information/ general/
The museum is free; donations are welcomed.

Dress for success!
We ask that you dress in BLUE or shirts with breastfeeding- friendly
slogans in order to show unity.

Find Abby!
I'll be at the front of museum. Dark curly hair, glasses, carrying a
6 month old in a blue sling. I'll hand you talking points, should you
be approached by members of the media.

Spread out!
Please pair off into small groups to enjoy the museum. Feel free to
stop and breastfeed your child whenever necessary. Remember, it is
not our intention to disrupt their business.

I hope to see many of you there!

Abby

Good luck!
It would have made a nice Feb Vacation road trip for us but I just told a friend I'd babysit and I'm not really comfortable bringing foster kids across state lines :-(
Boo
I hope you have a great turn out

Museum Nurse In

Dear Sarah:
The NYS Museum welcomes you and all breastfeeding moms to visit the museum on Friday or any other time and to nurse your babies anywhere in the museum where you choose to do so. This has been the museum's long-standing policy and many women throughout the Capital District, who have been nursing here for many years, would attest to that.
However, it is important that visitors know that admission is not free on Friday. Friday is the opening day of "New York in Bloom," an annual fundraising event for the Museum's after-school program.
The only other addition I would make to your posting is that Kristin Kelly was not asked to leave the museum by a museum employee. There is no employee at the museum matching the name or description of the one given to the Museum by Kristin Kelly's husband.
There are many state employees with ID tags who walk through the museum every day as part of a walking route they take on a regular basis. Kristin may have been approached by someone with an ID tag but the incident reported on WNYT does not reflect the policy of the State Museum or the action of any of its employees. This was clarified in followup segments that aired today on WNYT and WRGB. Both stations came to the station today and interviewed other moms at the museum, who confirmed the museum's long-standing support for breastfeeding moms.
We hope you will come and join the many other breastfeeding moms who visit the museum on a regular basis.

Just a reminder (as if the above post wasn't reminder enough) but this is a public forum.

Post at your own risk!
