Try almond milk in coffee. Many folks prefer almond milk, especially vanilla almond milk. I've gotten so I love soymilk in homemade chai, lattes and the like, but in an unflavored cafe au lait, it just falls flat.

I absolutely buy vegan meals at restaurants that serve meat. I want to send a message to the menu planners that there is a demand for vegan foods. I tend to prefer locally owned places, but I sometimes go to chains, especially when I'm with extended family. What I won't do is pay for a chicken salad and have them hold the chicken. That just annoys me.

I buy mostly local produce, and mostly bulk dried goods, and very little packaged foods. I do buy Safeway, Trader Joe's and Costco's house brand organic foods- Costco bread(I am an awesome cook, and I can make cookies and cakes like a pro, but I cannot bake bread to save my life, except pizza dough), peanut butter, and soymilk, Safeway catsup, a few frozen veggies for use in a pinch, and frozen berries, and we buy organic frozen blueberries, pasta and canned tomatos at Trader Joe's. I think by buying products that are organic, we send a message that these are products we want available.

Most of our fruits and veggies come from the farmers market. A couple of weeks ago I managed to do all my shopping for the week in one day. Here's a photo: http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...nip13/food.jpg

With the exception of the jam (homemade organic, we put up 38 pints this summer) and the cereal, which came out of the pantry, that was $102 worth of food in Sacramento.

Have you tried soy milk creamer in coffee? Not the dry kind, but the Silk kind (or Trader Joe's makes one, too). I prefer almond milk for everything else, but for the real creaminess that mimics half and half or cream, I find soy creamer is the only way to go. They have flavored varieties, too, that might make them more palatable to you, too. Or possibly some combination of soy creamer and almond milk would work.

I know you are coffee snob if you are anything like me, Honolula, but this actually works and tastes creamy and great.

Put a hefty table spoon of Nescafe crystals into the bottom of your mug, add just the teensiest drop or two of hot water and stir with a fork like the dickens until it's all a frothy foam and then add the sugar and keep stirring, then fill your mug and voila, you have a lovely creamy textured cup of coffee sans the milk.

I LOVE my milky coffee and this is actually quite good.

Anyone else pissed off at those California milk commercials with the "happy" cows roaming around loving california. Yea right?

Anyway, how can I find a local farm to tour? I'm in the city (Orlando).

This is a good article about a suit being brought against that group for those commercials.

i had an Italian friend who used to do this (passed on from her Nonna) and it tasted really good - I was quite amazed at the creaminess!
