Curious - questions about something on my chart...

My midwife gave me my file so I would have it at the house for the birth, and I was poking through it (well, wouldn't you?!)

Most things on it I understand, but there are a few things that I'm not sure what it means exactly and I was hoping someone here could help me with that
1. Pres. Posn. Now, I'm sure this means position referring to how far down in the pelvis the baby is, yes? The last two weeks, it has reported "2x", but the one today reported "x6" - and she mentioned that the baby wasn't as engaged in the pelvis as far as last time (he flipped to the right side from the left). Does this number refer to the number of centimeters before the baby is fully engaged?

2. FHR/FM It has gone down incrementally from 165 to 134 from August to now, floating around 140 for a few appointments. What does this number mean?

3. "vx dipping". This was just a note in the "comments" section for today.

I didn't get a chance to ask her about that all today, I didn't start snooping until I got home :0

THanks!

It's yours, of course you should look at it.

So...
1. Presentation and Position; presentation is what is presenting at the cervix (head/bum/shoulder) and position is which way the baby is facing (posterior or anterior. I'm not sure what x6 and 2x are, my best guess is that it's not a number but a drawing of baby position. The 6 would be baby head down and back to the left and the 2 (mine looks more like a backwards 6) head down and back on right. The x might represent where she heard the heartbeat the loudest (along the baby's back, kind of reconfirming what her palpations were telling her.

2. FHR is fetal heart rate, it's normal for it to fluctuate from minute to minute and to go down over time as the baby's nervous system develops. FM is fetal movement, I usually put a checkmark here when client reports regular movement (or two or three checkmarks if they report lots of movement). Maybe your midwife doesn't comment unless there's a concern.

3. Vx dipping means vertex/head is dipping into the pelvis. So baby head isn't floating above your pelvis but it's not fixed/engaged deep in your pelvis.

Hope that makes sense.

.
Now that I look at it, some of them do look like backwards 6's. She marked it down for the last 5 visits and there were three x6 and two 6(reversed)x so yeah - I guess that is more of an illustration than a number! Cool! Thanks for the info!!! THe baby did flip to my right side overnight, so that would make sense why it was different from the last two visits
