tylenol or cough suppressant ok while breastfeeding?

I have a fever of 103.9 and sore throat and ears and a very bad cough. is it ok to take something like tylenol while breastfeeding? I called the advice nurse yesterday and she said not to take any kind of decongestant because it will lower my supply. is there anything I can take before I decide to go to the dr? thanks in advance.

I would check out kellymom.com for more info on that. ITA with the decongestant advice. I have been sick for weeks and caved in and took Chlortrimitron, which they said was safe... i noticed a change in my supply in two days and did not take another one. I would try hot tea with lemon and honey. Also, steaming yourself - run the shower hot and breath in the steam. A humidifier with a few drops of eucalyptus and camphor. I think tylenol is ok if you fever is high. Hope you feel better

I would just take the plain tylonal or some motrin (if your ears are sore then motrin might work better) I'd avoid any cought medications - just steamy room, lots of water, a little vic's vapo rub and cought candies. I spent most of the last 5 years pregnant or nursing and had some doozies of colds. If your cough gets to bad go to the doctor and make sure you don't have bronculittis(inflamation of the airways - for that they give you an inhalor - which is safe for BFing)
