Midwives and Doulas...what is the best gift you've been given?

I'm almost 37-weeks and am having my first homebirth (4th baby). Yay! DBF and I really adore our midwife and our doula and want to give them something to show our appreciation. What is the best gift you have been given? What is something that you wish someone would give you or would want? I love giving the "right" gift and would like some input.

Honestly the "best" gift varied with the client. For example, once I worked with a teen who had nothing - no money, nothing - she was struggling, and I was her volunteer doula - when I went for the postpartum visit she gave me a bouquet of flowers (they weren't expensive and came from the grocery store, but they meant the world to me). I have also been given photos which mean the world to me especially the photos I get throughout the year!!! I have one client who sent me a newborn photo, Christmas card with photo, one year photo and even got a photo of her and her new sister even though they moved away. Other things I have gotten - candy, cards....honestly everything I have been given is cherished and unexpected. I would suggest something from you heart because you can't go wrong, and I am sure they will appreciate anything you give them!!!

oh, that's easy:

REFERRALS--telling her friends and fam and ppl on the street how great I am, and how they ought to give me a call.

Otherwise, I'm with pp--it really depends on the client and her circumstances. No matter what the object, when it is chosen and given in a heartfelt way, that always comes through.
