Help me name this book, please

I just returned a book to the library and can't remember the title... I forgot to record that I read it for school! Ooops! It was through inter-library loan, so it doesn't show up through the library either, it is just listed as ILL-3.

I think the name was something like "Portrait of a Black Lay Midwife", it wasn't very thick.... maybe about 90 pages or so. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, do you happen to know the author? I would greatly appreciate it.
