Panta?

I need something to keep my growing-out-but-at-an-awkward-stage hair under control so it can stop driving me crazy and making me want to shave it all off

Panta looks like exactly what I need. If I had tried to describe the perfect hair-control tool, I would be describing the Panta.

But I keep seeing people saying that it is so warm, warmer than they expected, etc. I run hot, like I only wear a quilted flannel jacket if it is snowing, long sleeves only below about 45 or so degrees hot.

Is the Panta going to be too hot for me to wear?

If I make it from the luscious Pakucho (organic, colorgrown Peruvian cotton) that I have, will it work out okay? It seems that the Panta is so lovely in wool, with its stretchiness etc, and I have some lovely HPY and purewool.

OK, a few other options for you.
I have a hair wrap: about 20" in circumference and 5" deep knitted in stocking stitch in lightweight yarn (sockweight, approximately.) Mine was bought, but you could make one easily- it'll roll in on itself or you can pull it out and wear it wide.

Calorimetry in DK silk wtih 4mm needles. Original number of stitches cast on, but use bigger needles for the CO and BO edges.

I run hot as well and wear a panta instead of warmer clothing. I did make it with smaller yarn so it isn't quite as wide.

You could also go with a Dream Swatch Wrap.

I, too, am growing out my hair and am at the downright shaggy stage. I love, love, love my two Pantas and will knit more. However, they do keep me quite warm. I think cotton is a good choice. Additionally, you could cast on fewer stitches to start and not go as wide. That, in fact, is what I am about to do to make myself two more that are a little less warm and big. I love the bigness of the panta overall but sometimes want something narrower.

Summer's coming, shave it: I'm shaggy at the moment too but no-pooing every other day really helps how it looks.

Anyway back to knitting - I did my panta in a dk with the given number of stitches and it it's just under 6" wide which is just enough to keep the mad sides under control and still have an air vent to let the heat out of the top of my head!
