coconut oil for hair/scalp

Thread Starter
I have heard of using coconut oil on your hair but what do you do? Put it on scalp, leave it for any amount of time, then clean or just rinse? Would you put it on a 3 month old? Would it help with the cradle cap?
And, most of all, where do you get it? What product(s) do you like/use?
Thanks.

I have only used it on dry hair and it takes a miniscule amount. I haven't used it on my scalp. You can get a jar of it at any natural foods store.

I know olive oil is recommended for cradle cap, I think coconut would likely do the same job. I also like to keep a soft baby brush on a shelf over the changing table and go over dd's scalp a few times when we change her diaper. It helps prevent new scales from forming.
