NEW: Cerclage Removed Today!

[sorry -- don't know why my last attempt to post this message ended up with two empty threads. weird.]

But speaking of thread...the docs took my cerclage out yesterday! We've been fast-tracked to get these babies out since I was diagnosed with cholestasis on Tuesday (a long, horrible, itchy story). But so far the babies are just fine, I'm on too many meds, and now my cervix is free to do whatever it pleases.

Indeed, labor could be around the corner. Or not. If I nature doesn't get things going by March 3 (36w, 2d), we'll likely do a test for lung function and if ok, induce that day or the next.

Wow!!! I'm going to meet my babies within the next 10 days!!

How 'bout the other cerclage mamas? When do yours come out?

Congrats on getting yours out. Can I ask what they did when they took it out? Mine was a very painful ordeal...and I have heard others say it was painful too, but a few said they never even noticed much pain. Did they give you pain meds or anything like that??

Mine came out the night of the 12th, baby was born the morning of the 13th by csection.

lilgsmommy-- I remember your cerclage removal plan, especially the part about pain killers. And I did see your post, describing a very different experience from what you had hoped for. I'm so sorry for that.

Mine was put in at 22 weeks as a result of a funneling cervix. Before the cholestasis diagnosis we were planning to remove at 36 weeks. So when I showed up yesterday and they suggested doing it then (35 weeks), I was surprised. And a bit anxious. But I agreed with the reasoning.

Seems that standard procedure for cerclage removal at my practice is in-office, no pain meds. In my case, the speculum was the worst part. I think it actually cut me. It was huge and cold. By comparison, I hardly felt the tug and clip of the cerclage. I was perfectly fine for about 15 minutes afterward.

Then I had terrible cramps/cx. I couldn't tell which it was. I was sitting in the waiting room and suddenly was in so much pain I couldn't stand up. We had to call dh to come get me (I drove myself there and had to leave my car).

So it was a mixed bag: ok procedure, pretty awful afterward. The cramps/cx continued at home for about 2-3 hours. I did take Tylenol. In hindsight, I'm a little surprised there wasn't more monitoring. But I suppose I'd rather be in my bed than at the office or hospital.

glad that your doc cares about you...and the little ones.
My cerclage is almost out on its on and I am already dilated. Getting really unhappy about this experience.
