Hi everyone,
On Wednesday, 2/20, we welcomed Ellis Thomas, the cutest baby ever, at 2:14 pm. He was 8 lbs, 3 oz.
My water broke at 8 am on Tuesday and contractions started about then. We went to the hospital around 2 because I was GBS+, had a broken bag, and there was meconium in the fluid. As we got to the hospital, the contractions started to get bad. They were all in my back and were so painful. I labored and progressed well, hitting 7.5 around 1 am. Unfortunately, I was still there around 5 am. We tried nipple stimulation until 7, but weren't able to get back into a good rhythm. With all of the complications of the GBS and meconium, we were under a bit of time crunch. I was sad that I couldn't get going again and began to get scared. We decided to try Pitocin, which was a hard and scary decision. We had to ramp up the Pit pretty hard and by 1, I was in so much pain and was so tired, I just couldn't take it any more. I decided to make use of pain relief and had a little narcotic and boy oh boy, did that help! The contractions were still really painful, but I was able to get some sleep between contractions and within and hour, I was ready to push.
Ellis was born in 4 contractions. Sarah caught him and placed him on my chest right away. He was perfect! Although nothing went as we had planned, it was the most amazing day of my life.
I'll try to get pictures up tomorrow. Good luck to everyone still in waiting and to all the other new babies!
