menstruating once after pregnant

I've heard often that once you conceive you may still get one last period when it would normally be expected ~2wks after ovulation.... I've been ttc for ~1.5 yr and each month I wonder what that period would be like. Anyone know? Or is this a case of being different for everyone?

I take some herbs during my follicular phase that shouldn't be taken if pregnant; and, I do lots of yoga, and I know my practice needs to be significantly modified for the first trimester.... SO, after every period I've been taking a pee test just in case. This gets expensive! Not to mention (1) I crave knowledge and (2) when ttc I need one more thing to obsess over.

Thanks!

Some women experience implantation spotting when implantation occurs... generally 6-12 days past ovulation with 8-10 being more common... only once in 5 pregnancies have I seen this and that was 14 days past ovulation - confirmed ovulation as I was on meds - and 14dpo for implantation is not good. Pregnancy didn't last but a few days. I think most women do not have implantation spotting. In my case it was red blood on the toilet paper for one wipe - had a - HPT that morning but a + blood pregnancy test that afternoon.

For some, it may last a little longer than that.

There are also some women who continue to have period-like bleeding for the first few months of their pregnancy - or even their entire pregnancy - but it's not the norm at all. I don't know anyone this has actually happened to.

In general is you have what appears to be a period you can assume you are NOT pregnant. Brief spotting is suspect, but full-on flow *probably* means save your money.

I agree with RunnerDuck, but if you are unsure, you can always check your temps. If your temp is still above the coverline, then you could test. If not, you know it's full blown af.

When I was doing IUIs + progesterone and/or some herbs, sometimes they could throw off my temps and my doc always wanted me to test even if I had a bleed, so I decided to order a bunch of the hpts from one of the places online (I think the most recent place I ordered from was earlypregnancytests.com, but I haven't cycled in a while so that's from memory). I ordered 25 to 50 at a time and they came out to about $1 each with shipping (even cheaper if you caught a sale). Also, the dollar store tests are accurate. Much cheaper than FREDs and can fulfill a POAS addiction if you have one (like me).

Thanks so much for all of the great input. I'm usually pretty sure that big, crampy AF wouldn't be possible if implantation was successful, but I can second-guess myself like nobody's business.
I had forgotten that my temps might tell me, because I stopped taking them months ago-- my sleep was increasingly disturbed due to stress of watching my temps, and the messed up sleep messed up my ability to get a good temp. I was making note of my cervix position for a short while after tossing my bbt, but I didn't find that easily readable/ consistent. So now we just do it for a week during my historical middle time. ( known from old temp patterns).

Good luck everyone!
