Laundry: Ecover vs Seventh Generation

Thread Starter
Which do you prefer?

I used Ecover this last month. I like how I didn't get a ton of suds in my diapers and towels. It probably cost 40% more than the Tide HE at Costco, but it is better for the environment.

The wholesale co-op that I buy from carries both.

Also, does anyone know if Frontier carries these and if they have Bac-out. The catalog is overwhelming to me.

I like both, but prefer SG.

I love my Ecover. Will never switch.

I love Ecover too and yes, Frontier carries both. I just bought a large box of Ecover powder for about $11.

The Ecover was cheaper than SG today, so that's what I bought.

I think both work equally as well, so get whichever is the cheapest.

I actually prefer Charlie's Soap for laundry and pre-treating some stains with Bac-Out.

I like Bio-kleen premium powder best. I get a big box that lasts me more than a year: http://www.theecstore.com/index.php?...roducts_id=790

I wash alot of dark colors and I find the Seventh Gen Free and Clear keeps the darks dark. So that's what I use. That said I love the Ecover fabric softener.

What size box lasts you a year? The 54 load box?? I feel like I'm buying laundry detergent every two weeks. The 54 loads would not last me that long. I do one or two loads a day.

That link is to a 50 lb box, but the small box is pictured.

I'm thinking of ordering this clothes detergent. It says you should clean your washer first by doing empty loads w the detergent. Did you do this? I live in a condo where other people use the washers so it would be impossible to do this.

Have you tried the dishwasher powder? I'm using seventh generation now and its horrible. I don't know why I keep buying it. I rinse or presoak my dishes before putting them in but they still come out dirty. I just don't get it.

There have been some concerns about Charlie's Soap. See this thread:
Quote:
That's true that nothing works for everyone, but Charlie's has a reputation for causing huge blisters, chemical burns, and SCARS on babies bottoms and genitals. That is a huge difference from either hives or "redness" or just minor irritation, which occurs normally with different products for different people, IMO. There are numerous threads on Diaper Swappers and Diaper Pin where many mamas talk about how their children have SCARS on their bottoms because they were so badly burned by the Charlie's soap after just one diaper. That is not normal IMO.
Bio-kleen uses roughly the same amount of soap and does not have these issues at all.

Don't have a dishwasher. I use Ecover liquid soap.

Both are good, so I go with whatever's at the lowest price.

Costco (at least here) now has Ecos laundry detergent! : It's a humongo bottle and only in "magnolia & lily" scent which is a bit perfumey for my tastes, but it's a better price per load than enviro detergents usually are.

Trader Joe's store brand also is very good.

I have used both and they are both good. If I had to pick I would say SG. Although, I ran out last week and decided to try BioKleen and I really like it. You get more for your money. My clothes feel softer. I NEVER use the amount of detergent boxes tell you to use. I use half and than I add a cup of baking soda. My clothes come out very clean and fresh and I save money big time by doing this.
