IUD pregnancy!!

Ladies... midwives.. I need your help!

I have a good girlfriend who just found out she is pregnant.. she has the paraguard IUD... she does not know how far along she is yet.. but she has an OB appt. scheduled for this comming week.

What is the normal procedure for this? We live in VT and I have gotten many different answers on how this iud preg. will be approached. Does it matter how far along she is? Will they be able to remove the iud early on or can the fetus survive with the iud still implanted?? what are the chances she will misscarry if it gets removed? pretty high I would think.

Please pass on any related info!!

This pregnancy has to mean that the iud was not in place correctly anymore... right?!?!

I am not a birth professional, but this is what I know from when I was considering an IUD. There is a 50% miscarriage rate if you get pregnant because you do have to remove it. That is why I decided not get one. I don't think it means that it was put in incorrectly if you get pregnant, but I think it is 98% effective. No birth control is 100% effective and I know of several people (in VT-I live here, too!) who have gotten pregs with an IUD in.
