First, to MDC!
In order to get more responses to this, you may want to post this in a separate thread, in this subforum and/or Health and Healing.

I don't want it to replace real meat, as in we need it with every meal. but I enjoy me a fake meat once a week or so. mostly we make them ourselves out of tvp.

Welcome to MDC! Like the PP said you may want to start this as a new subject so that you get more responses.

But as a first response - doctor's are actually a pretty poor source of nutritional information in general. You are better off speaking to a nutritionalist who will recognize your veganism and give you better advice.

We do, but not all the time. I like Amy's burgers crumpled up in pasta, DP likes chicken-free nuggets, and during the summer veggie dogs and burgers are nice to have around for cookouts.

Meat for bones?? What planet does that doctor come from?! Meat will only leech more calcium from his bones in order to process the high animal protein load : . Nobody NEEDS cod liver oil...a source of DHA/omega 3 fatty acids yes, fish oil, no. Find a new doctor who actually knows an ounce of something about nutrition...or ignore him completely.

We eat the Field Roast sausages pretty regularly and I enjoy the Tofurkey deli slices too. My picky toddler really loves the Lightlife fakin bacon. We eat Amy's burgers (the California style). I also make seitan. Every blue moon I buy veggie crumbles to make lasagne or "beef" patties but that is a real treat. With the mock meat I really just try to stay away from isolated soy protein. I'm a very picky eater too so . . . I just can't eat beans and greens all the time.. Everyone was surprised when I did go veg*n because I am so choosy. Anyway, I find that when I tried to cut out all the mock meats I would eat way more grains to try to fill up. In any case, whatever dish I'm making, the mock meat is the *minority* ingredient in there with vegetables and beans being the major component. My reasoning is that the mock meats, fwiw, are better for me, the earth and the animals than eating real meat would be.
