Upsetting mw appointment - UPDATE POST #16

Well, I met with my mw this afternoon, and she did the standard testing, and my bp is up and I have protein in my urine. Pre-e has been my boogey-man throughout my pregnancy; my sister had it with her first and it led to her cs and rcs, besides almost killing her. When things were still looking good for me a couple weeks ago, I finally let it go and figured I was pretty much in the clear. But now the worry is back, of course. My mw left me with a bunch of things to try to lower my bp and support liver and kidney function (RRL tea w/ nettles, cucumbers, 60+ g protein a day, etc.), and she's going to come re-test me on Wednesday. If things are looking better, we'll just continue the homeopathic support and keep monitoring the situation. If my bp and protein are unchanged or worse, I'm going to have to contact my GP and get some more rigorous testing done.

My poor DH kept looking at me throughout the visit, like he thought I might suddenly freak out or melt-down. He knows how this has haunted me. I'm feeling surprisingly calm about it, though. Of course we will do whatever is necessary to ensure a healthy birth for Robin AND me, and if that means I don't get my homebirth, then so be it, I guess. I'm going to do everything in my power to stay healthy until she comes, and that's all I can do.

All that being said, Robin's progress is spot-on, she's moving well, head-down and engaged, and I'm almost 38w, so if she has to come sooner than later, she'll probably be fine.

I guess I just wanted to let you all know. You've been such a source of support. Please send some healthy mama/healthy baby vibes my way, if you get a chance.

Ugh I hate pre-e. How bad was your protien and bp? Do you have swelling? There is a more conclusive test to see if you do indeed have pre-e. I hope your bp and protien go down. Did they say any other things to try to lower your bp?

Hang in there mama and get some rest.

*hugs* What a nasty shock! I've been vaguely afraid of having it since my blood pressure went up (not high, but high for me) and I started getting swollen ankles. My midwife's been very calm about it so far, and I haven't had any protein in my urine, but it still kinda haunts me... I didn't realise you could actually do stuff about it by supporting kidney/liver functions, though! That's cool! Your DH sounds supportive, so make sure he gives you everything you need to take care of yourself, k? Prayers and hugs that this will 'blow over' and you'll get the birth you want!

I love the name Robin, BTW.

Hope this amounts to nothing at all, and Robin shows up without fanfare!!!

OH man, talk about waiting till the last minute! So sorry mama. Fingers crossed that your body is open to the homeopathics.

That sucks! And the added stress I am sure helps your blood pressure.

I had pre-e with my first, too. I hope the homeopathic measures help!

hope it works out well for you!

How often do you eat eggs? My midwife is very insistent on 2 eggs a day, every day, with protein intake being more like 75g+ I always have good bp, but with dd2 it did start to climb a couple times- I just made sure I got my 2 eggs (I hate eggs so slacked off) and sure enough my bp would be perfect next visit.

One thing that really helped me was drinking tons of water. I found that my pre-pre-eclampsia issues got worse if I worked to hard. I got my biggest red flag after working in my garden and not drinking enough. After that, I rested more and drank more.

Good luck and I hope things improve

Good luck! Your almost there--s:

I hope your list of things to try helps. You're so close to the end. Hang in there!

Did they order a 24 hour urine test and liver function tests? I had pre-e with baby 2 and have had some bp issues this time but have managed to avoid pre-e. Did your mw give you a list of things to watch for to signal it is becoming a problem? I was induced last time when I started getting bad headaches and eye issues. Gossamer has a great thread on pre-e in the general preg section.

Big and here's hoping that things improve for you. You sound very reasonable, calm, focused. Good for you!

My mw tells EVERYONE to be sure to be at 75 - 100 g of protein a day and my chiro put me on a few days of rest and said to shoot for 150 g of protein a day (ha ha! but it made me get to 100, rather than 75) when I was swelling. I guess some people believe Brewer's diet can be a way of eating your way out of pre-e (or its early stages, at least). Something to investigate...

Thanks for your support, mamas

My bp was 144/98 last night, up 10/10 from a week ago. But the protein was only slightly more than trace, and my swelling looks more like normal 38w-pregnant swelling than pre-e swelling. It's just in my feet, not my hands and face. So, it's all definitely something for us to be concerned about and watch, but nothing conclusive yet. I'm going to do all the homeopathic stuff, including getting as much protein and humanly possible (unfortunately I HATE eggs, so I'm downing cottage cheese like crazy instead). Thanks for the reminder to rest, pumpkingirl; things are kinda crazy at work, and I have a hard time saying no, so I'll have to be vigilant about taking care of myself. If I haven't improved in a couple days, I'll go to my GP (if I can get an appt ) and have the 24-hr urine test and the liver function blood test, and we'll take it from there. And, yeah, I'll be on the lookout for the serious signs in the meantime (headaches, vision trouble, abdominal pain, etc.)

My mw also suggested I do some meditation and visualization, and so last night before bed I focused on allowing my body to nourish itself, on asking my baby to come as soon as she's ready, and on my cervix thinning out and opening. I got some really nice contractions during the night and a few so far today, too, so hopefully my body is responding and getting ready to have this baby soon.

Thanks again so much for all your support, hugs, prayers, advice and wisdom. I'll keep you posted

**UPDATE**

I met again with my mw last night and after three days of guzzling pregnancy tea and eating cucumbers things are looking better . My bp is back down to where it was at previous visits, and the slight swelling in my ankles and feet is almost completely gone. I'm still spilling some protein, but my mw said given my overall health and the size and movement of my baby, she feels comfortable where we're at, for now. So for now I'll keep up the homeopathic remedies and we'll continue to monitor the situation, but we don't have to "interface with the medical model" yet, as she puts it She's also recommended that I cut my work hours back to half-time so I can concentrate on relaxing and staying healthy, which is a relief.

We have another visit on Sunday (she's coming up to do my belly-cast, and then we'll go to my baby shower!). So we'll check my numbers again then. I'm feeling much better about the whole situation now, though.

Thanks again, mamas, for all your support and prayers!

So glad that thinks are getting better. I have been thinking about you.

Wow that's a relief! I'm gonna start downing more preggo tea and eating cukes just to be on the safe side LOL. How many did you eat in a day and did you eat them plain or dressed up a tad.

that is good news!
