What do I say to my SIL

My husband's BIL had a massive heart attack on Friday (Feb 22nd) and they put the stents in (3). If SIL didnt get him to the Dr that morning, he would have been dead by noon. She had been after him to go in for the day or two before hand. Well now he is vented, might need more stents and the Drs asked for his DNR paperwork. He may recover but it dosent look good.

They have two dds one a teen, the other a preteen.

What should I be doing and saying to my SIL?? They live across the country also.

Offer to listen whenever she needs to talk (and mean it) and reaffirm to her that this is not her fault.

Just be sure to keep in touch, and ask how SHE is doing whenever you talk to her, and offer to help however you are able. You know, we never outgrow the need for a care package! A nice care package, with things for each person (and maybe something for BIL if he can listen to music or read, etc.)...that would be pretty well received, I'm thinking. It would be nice to bake them brownies or something, and maybe send each of the girls something they like, and your SIL some kind of self-care thing. Like bubble bath, or lotion, or other nice things. What do teenage girls like? I have no idea. Maybe they'd like self-care things too, like little bottles of perfume or make-up or nice PJs or something.

When my friends brought me little gifts and food after our m/c this month, it meant the world to me. I'll always remember it.

Even if you don't send anything, just getting phone calls and cards from you, that would be so comforting to them. Offer to help with whatever you can from your part of the world. Just so they feel supported and held in your thoughts. Is your DH being supportive too?

when my mom was in the hospital, i would have loved like a merry maids certificate or something... the thought of the dishes getting moldy was upsetting me but i was way too exhausted to go do them.
