my dd has become obsessed with "pat the bunny sing with me" video. so i bought the book for her.

i am soooo dissapointed. i paid $10 for a cheaply made book! we've only had it since last thursday and it's already falling apart!!

it has a plastic spiral binding, and paperboard> pages.

was anyone else angry about the book quality??

and another thing....i don't see why it's one of the best-sellers. i've read better kid books.

am i the only one who doesn't like it?

I agree that the copies I've seen these days seem flimsy. Also, reading it as an adult, it seems quite sexist/stereotypical to me.

However - I clearly remember reading this book as a little kid and LOVING it. It was one of my favorites when I was about 3 or 4. Not that my experience is necessarily universal, but I just have such strong, fond memories of it.

What does your child think of it?

Well, it clearly reflects the time period in which it originated, which was around 1940 I believe. But I do think it's a cute book. Ozaiis isn't too impressed with it thus far though.
:LOL

Bonnie loved it. Still asks for it now and then.

It's a cute book, and I suppose it's a classic. I wasn't too impressed with Goodnight Moon, either, at first, but dd loved it.

My Pat the Bunny book fell apart quickly, too.

I believe one of the reasons it is such a classic is just that it was one of the very first books for young toddlers at all and especially the interactive part was a real innovation. And you have to admit that is a great idea!

Sign of the times!

Moving this to the books forum!

My copy survived two kids although it is now showing its age. The sequels, Pat The Dog and Pat the Something Else that Escapes Me Now are even worse. They have lots of pop-up type thingies that the kids rip off instantly.

However, both my two and my Goddaughter adore Pat the Bunny. It makes my head explode to read it, but read it I do.

Jane: my daughter loves it, actually. she especially likes the bunny and the peekaboo pages.

lunamom: i didn't like goodnite moon either. neither did dd.

my dd's fave book is "but not the hippopotamus".....well it WAS untill we got ...bunny.

luckily for me, the video is wearing out already!

My little guy loves the book - which is, of course, beginning to show signs of his, uh, "love."

Yes, it is burdened by the gender stereotypes of its time period - but, well, so are many of the classic books - another thread topic, perhaps?

Still, the interactive quality is what my babe loves - esp. teh peek-a-boo page.

I haven't seen the video.
