Be careful driving today.

there are all kinds of police out there looking for speeders. there have been a lot of reports lately about accidents. wishing everyone a safe drive and full bellies.

Mt Vernon lurker needing med rec

I'm an infrequent poster and regular lurker. My family and I moved to Mount Vernon in May. Thankfully, in that time, we haven't needed a doctor. However, at work at a vet clinic, I got bitten by a ferret, then unknowingly cleaned up the urine of a leptospirosis-positive dog. Work is willing to pay for a physical and lepto test, but as long as I'm finding a doc/gp/pa/etc for myself, I'd really like to find one for my two ds's, who are currently unvaxed (and I'm planning to keep them that way.) At one time, someone recommended Gina Butteris (sp?) and I called her clinic, but she'd not there anymore. Any other recommendations? We don't use the doctor much, but I do try and take my boys in every 6 mos to 1 year to have documentation of medical care. Any help greatly appreciated!!

Dr. Butteris is now working in cedar rapids somewhere. i have been seeing Emily appleton at the mount vernon family practice. she is good to me, doesnt push me to vax or anything, and understands why i prefer natural medicine.

DD has her second wbv Friday and is starting her vaxes. I'm planning on following a delayed scheduled and I'm nervous about telling our fp. I have no idea why, since at the last one I told her I wanted to delay the Hep B one for awhile and she was fine with it, just wanted to know why, but I am. Why does anyone in the medical field turn me into a nervous wreck, even if when I like them? Is there anyone here who spaced out vaxes? What did you say to the doctor?

I spaced out our vaxes for my last one over an extra year but my dr was the one that helped me with it! Of course this was in Seattle, not Iowa. He never gave more than 2 shots at a time and didn't even recommend the chicken pox or one of the other ones-forget which one now. He was awesome-I miss him!
Strangely though, his nurse was the only one who ever gave me a hard time about nursing when giving shots : The practice was the main "crunchy" doc around but his nurse wasn't all that crunchy.

I went to a guy who I knew was nice to a friend about delayed vax. Then I skipped a few wbv when she was young so we were already "catching up" and had to discuss what to do. Then I said which ones I was interested in her having and which not. They've been pretty ok with it.

Due to weather, tonight's Holistic Moms Network meeting is canceled. Our conscious consumerism speaker is going to talk at the January 13 meeting instead.

Hello!
My DH just got an offer for a job in ames, starting in July and I was wondering if there are any crunchy mamas out there! I am also looking for family doctor recommendations since we are doing delayed/selective vacinations with our DD.

FOIM Meeting: Representative Mascher

Hi all,

This is short notice, but if you can, PLEASE plan to attend this event!

We have a meeting with State Representative Mary Mascher (Dist. 77, Iowa City) scheduled for THIS THURSDAY, Jan. 8th, at 3:00 at the Iowa City Public Library, Meeting Room B.

We'll be meeting with Rep. Mascher to discuss CPM licensure in Iowa, answer any questions she might have, and seek her support for a licensure bill. She has expressed interest in the level of support among medical care providers, so any RNs or CNMs on board are particularly encouraged to come. (We need as many consumers and DEMs as possible, too! Babies are welcome!)

This is an important opportunity for us as a group to make our first face-to-face contact with a member of the IA legislature. If you can come, please RSVP ASAP to: monica-brasile@uiowa.edu. Let's make our voices heard!
