sock pattern for child

My son HATES socks. Says they make his feet itch. I was buying some sock yarn for a swap partner and he saw some he liked and asked that I make him socks. He's almost 5, wears a size 10 shoe. Anyone have a good sock pattern for a child? I have almost knitted a sock before. I finished turning the heel and then someone decided that the needles would make good swords. : So preferably something easy. oh and here is the yarn he picked. THe Coastal one. http://knitpicks.com/Felici_YD5420165.html

I started knitting by making 3 pairs of the socks in the book The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns by Ann Budd. I made a pair each for a 3 year old, a one year old (that size isn't in there, so I followed directions for a bigger gauge than I was knitting in, so there were less stitches, they turned out perfectly) and myself. I am now working on a giant pair for my husband. I like this pattern because you can use any yarn, and the heels are very easy to turn. I just got the book at the library, but I may have to buy it soon! If a person who has never knit before can turn out a perfect pair the first time out, YOU CAN TOO!

Disclaimer: I made the socks a bit big so I could felt them for warmth. So now, even if there were any imperfections, no one will ever know!

I avoided this pattern like the plague because for some reason I was skeerd , but now I love it and have used it to make socks for my son and myself :

Universal Toe-Up Formula

I love it! It was really fun.
