solutions for dry scalp?

A few months ago I tried a new shampoo (Herbal essense straightening...bad idea I know!) and for the first time in my life it caused me to have a dry flaky scalp...most noticeable right around my part line and right by my forehead.

I have since ditched that shampoo and switched to a natural one, and while my scalp is no longer itchy it's still flaking a bit.

What are some natural solutions that could help me out? I'm pregnant so I would need to make sure they are okay for pregnancy as well.

Thank you!

eta: before I got pregnant I had purchased some tea tree oil shampoo in the natural living section of our grocery store...I read something about TTO not being safe for pregnancy so I stopped using it. Maybe it's safe on your scalp though? I'll have to research.

I have found TeaTree oil, rosemary and mint to all be very good for dandruff as well as dry scalp.

OMG, I was just coming to ask this!

Do you put it right on the scalp? How many times a day? How do you disguise the "greasiness"?

I REFUSE to use the H&S garbage that DH gets. It works, but I finally read about the ingredients and it scared me.

My scalp and hair are dry to very dry. I don't experience any "greasiness" . . . it seems like coconut oil gets all sucked in--better than any other oil I've used.

thanks for replying! My hair isn't really dry, but my scalp is horrible. No matter what. I've even tried no shampoo for up to a week and it doesn't help (and I cannot stand not washing my hair!)

I guess I will try it. If it looks strange, I suppose I could just use a scarf or something. I'm typically walking around with a wet head anyway after exercising or showering, so i suppose it wouldn't look much different!

My DS#1 has a horrible dry scalp (since he was a baby and he's now 5). We've tried everything under the sun to help and nothing has worked. We just ordered shampoo bars from Chagrin Valley and I used the Mud and Clay one on him and, no lie, after the first time of using it, his dry scalp is gone! I noticed when I switched him to another shampoo bar, his scalp got a little dry (not too bad, though) so went back to the Mud and Clay. Here's the ingrediants:

Ingredients: Saponified oils of olive, castor bean, coconut, jojoba, sunflower, palm kernel, unrefined shea butter, and wheat germ; organic aloe vera; Dead Sea mud; rhassoul clay; filtered rainwater; sea kelp; essential oils of lavender, lemongrass, and lemon; vitamin E oil; and rosemary oil extract.

I do remember reading (on Terressentials website?) that the lemon and lemongrass is good for dry hair and scalp.

Where does one buy coconut oil? Whole Foods?
Yes, whole foods carries them. Or mountain rose herbs or tropical tradition.

You guys probably already know this, but you can check ingredients and many products on www.cosmeticsdatabase.com. They've recently added a lot of products and it's good to know the ingredients. Good luck!
