Welcome Helena Wren! (Thank you castor oil!)

Our long awaited bundle of joy finally arrived February 25th, 18 days after her estimated due date! Whew! Those last couple of weeks were tough- but she was well worth the wait! We're so in love!

Helena Wren was 8 lbs 1 oz and 21 1/2 inches tall (beating out her brother who was 7lbs 4oz and 20 1/2.) She was born into the water in our snuggly nest of a room, with papa and midwives catching. Aunt M was awesome labor support and DS and his Mimi came in just seconds after the baby did. Hard labor started around 10 pm and after lots of loud noises but just 10 minutes or less of pushing, our sweet little bird " Wrennie" arrived at 12:59 am.

We narrowly averted a hospital induction on Monday, by pulling out all the stops with frequent acupuncture and my new hero- Castor oil!

Anyway, a few pictures-

Detailed birth story to come!

Woohoo! Congrats, Mama! I'm so impressed with the 18 days late! I saw my doc yesterday and he had a heart attack about me being 3 days late (*insert eyeroll here*).

Tell me (when you have a minute, ) how the castor oil went for ya. I've heard so many different stories, I'm curious.

The castor oil wasn't bad at all, especially considering it got me my babe! I took 4 oz. well blended in rootbeer and ice cream (11:30 am) and couldn't taste a thing, except for a few burps afterward. I had a few bouts of diarrhea ( not crampy) and good regular contractions started about 1:30pm 4-6 minutes apart and didn't stop coming.

A couple more diarrhea bouts during active labor, controlled and inconsequential (10 pm) and my sweet baby was born around 1 am.

I know a couple of things that may have made it work for me were 1) I was juicy ripe, 2-3 centimeters and 80% effaced. 2) I had a cervical sweep that morning and 3) regular acupuncture/acupressure in preceding days.

I would definitely recommend it to women in similar circumstances!
