Sometimes in life you don't get exactly what you wanted or asked for. But, what you do get can be even better.
So you all probably remember DP and I were hoping for a boy. But yesterday on the 25th we were blessed with a beautiful baby girl. She arrived at 1:28AM.
I spent all of the 24th, except the first four hours of the day, in labor, building up for the final event. I will post my birth story later, but this is the abridged version. Laboring at home I had to be standing or walking, laying down took babys heart rate too low. So my DP and MW chased me around in a small circle around our couch and also up the stairs and down. I was uncooperative and stubborn to most all suggestions.
Then my own BP started to rise, we already knew I was borderline pre-eclamptic. I was unable to keep any food or liquids in my stomach and after actively laboring for 11 hours I was only at 5cm. Finally at around 7PM MW decided I was in too much danger to birth at home, my BP was beyond the normal range, and her remedies weren't bringing it down. So we transferred to our local hospital. There after much difficulty ranging from babys heart rate varibility not being satisfactory and my own BP rising, me requesting an epidural, getting a fever, and refusing a fetal scalp monitor, Baby girl was born vaginally 1.5 hours after her 2-24 EDD.
I spent all of yesterday hooked to magnesium sulfate IV. I am improving quickly, the doctor says my labs have shown improvement and that my lifestyle has really benefited me. Like I lost a good amount of blood, but because I had focused on keeping my iron high with Floradix, I haven't been held back by that.
She is absolutely the most beautiful being I have ever seen. I have a hard time keeping my eyes off her. Together we are learning how to breastfeed and the nurses here are wonderful helpers and have many good suggestions. I also can't say enough good about DP. He has been here the whole way, doing everything he could to support me during labor and since. And he is quite smitten by our beautiful sweet girl.
Today I am off of IV's and am still here more for monitoring rather than anything else. But after what I went through, I am glad that we are all here, it might not have been how we wanted to spend our first few days together
, but I have no complaints. Well, I think it's time for another nursing session. I will post more on here in the next day or two.
Thank you to all the Mommas who came before me and those who I've met through MDC. Your words and experiences have been invaluable to me.
Love,
Genevieve
