It comes out March 14th. I'll be bringing my kids to see this and can't wait! Love the book. Anyone else going?

I'm going to wait to hear what people are saying before going. It was Jim Carey who totally destroyed The Grinch; why are they letting him near Dr Seuss a second time? I just can't imagine this being good.

It's computer animated, though. Not "real life" like the Grinch. I'll be beyond pissed if they screw this one up. The trailer looks pretty cute. I hope they stick with "A person's a person, no matter how small" theme.

I can't tolerate any sort of new Jim Carey vehicle, even if it's just his voice. I think it would be weird to have his voice along side Steve Carell's, who is, imo, funnier and more refined than JC by far.

Saw it this afternoon.
Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!
They kept the "a person's a person, no matter how small", there was a jab at homeschooling (don't know how deliberate).
ds (7) and dd (4) enjoyed it.

There was a review in our local paper that really slammed it.

Well our plans changed so we didn't go see this today but probably will next week. So I'll be back to post a review.

I took my 5yo charge to see it today and neither of us enjoyed it. There was a scary vulture in it that she didn't like and the storyline was really thin and draaaagged out.
We took dd to see it yesterday and we thought it was pretty cute.

I liked it, but I don't have kids so I went with some girlfriends.

I did overhear the kiddos next to us being a little freaked out by the vulture, and they were genuinely concerned when Horton didn't answer the mayor at the end. I don't think I saw any kids bouncing around or being bored near me though. I don't even remember anyone getting up to go potty! Haha!

I didn't like that they used "idiot" and "moron" as insults in a few parts. They way overused the word "boob" as an insult IMHO. I thought the overall theme was great though.. "A person's a person no matter how small."

And.. I don't know what kid wouldn't want to live in Whoville after seeing it. I'd totally love it!

I took two 6-year old boys today. One was bored and the other was a little scared. It has some cute moments but it really drags and there's lots of filler story that wasn't in the book.

my mom is taking DS (5) this afternoon. we'll see how it goes and i'll definetely report back.
We went Saturday. My kids (8 and 3) said they thought it was ok... they didn't want to buy it when it comes out and that's usually a bad sign. DH and I were bored to TEARS. Total waste of money.

Ok, so my mom took DS (5) to see it yesterday and the 7.5 yo boy she cares for in the afternoons (she's like his social worker sort of). Anyway, the vote from all three of them was "It was great!" This is from my mom who hates almost every kids movie, my 5 yo DS who has only sat through 1 movie before, ever (even on DVD at home) and a 7.5 yo who has ADHD and doesn't usually like tv or movies. So the vote over here is a yes! I haven't seen it yet but I trust my mom's opinion on this. She's hard to please when it comes to movies.

DS talked me into it against all my protests and he loved it. I laughed pretty hard at parts too. Especially pouchschooled! Carol Burnett was wonderful! The homage to Japanese animation was hilarious too. I felt Jim Carrey actually toned it down a bit and welcomed that. And Vlad was hilarious to us and only wished it had been Viggo Mortensen spoofing his Eastern Promises role. That would have been better for me having to sit through a kids' movie.

Sure there was filler but that's a given when you try to take a thin picture book and make it into an hour and a half movie. As far as Suess film adaptations go it's by far the one that's stayed the truest to the original story. None of us (BF was dragged along too) felt it was slow.

I didn't think it was amazing, but I didn't think it was horrible either. ITA about the japanese animation part, that actually cracked me up.

dd of course liked it, but she's 3... so it really doesn't take much as long as it's animated. She was captivated the whole time, and that was her first movie theatre experience.

But, um, yeah... I was scared she was going to be calling everyone a boob after that. The repetitive use of that word was just weird. And the kangaroo scared me, at times. : but dd seemed fine. I think there was one part with the vulture and the kangaroo where she kind of jumped for a second.

Oh, and devout homeschoolers should probably cover your ears for a second somewhere around 10 minutes into the movie.

ITA except that we also have a 6 yo. He liked it. The 3 yo wouldn't sit still and only laughed out and hard at the part when Horton was shaking his butt around dancing or whatever it was. I kept zoning out and looking at other people to see if they were (dis)interested. The 8 yo said it was good. Nothing else. He doesn't know he can veto a movie at his age. Dh said we should have waited for video.

And P.S. I LOVE Carol Burnett and was bummed that she was the cranky bad guy w/the whole hide in your pouch and don't use your head deal.

I took my 5 y/o today and we enjoyed it. I loved that the central theme was still there. I'm not a fan of Jim Carrey at all and I thought the character was great. Not at all over the top like most of his characters. Ds was a bit unsure about the vulture before we saw him but once he came into view, he became a lot less threatening.

I absolutely hated, though, the name calling and the use of the words moron, idiot and boob. That really, really bugged me.

Loved seeing whoville. Oh and I loved that the guy who did the mouse's voice was in the movie. I don't remember his name but I think he's hillarious.

We finally saw it. I thought pouchschooled was funny too. I didn't get to see all of it since I was walking around with my ds most of the time but the parts I watched, I liked. My dd liked it too.
