Favorite Children's Books

Thread Starter
OK, So I have been doing a lot of searching in this forum for different children's books. I like seeing what other parents read to their kids. Well I thought I would start a thread of all our favorite books for our kids from baby to teens. I am especially interested in the books you read beyond the baby and toddler years.

I was going to start but ds is only 4 months so I don't have much to reference but here are my thoughts on our baby books. I hope this catches on..

Baby, Toddler, young child books:
I love Eric Carle books! The Very Quiet Cricket, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, A House for Hermit Crab, My Very First Book of Colors, My Very First Book of Shapes...just to name a few.
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
I Love You Through and Through by Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak
Let Me Hold You Longer by Karen Kingsbury...a tear jerker imo (except I don't like the reference to a bottle in one line)
You are My I Love You by Marann Cusimano and Satomi Ichikawa
Just ordered Mama Mama...very excited about that one!

I also look forward to reading James and Giant Peach, Children of the Forest, The Wonderful Adentures of Nils,...

Come on mamas...I know you can't resist a "favorites" thread

I was trying all day yesterday to start a very similar thread! Here it is (can you believe this was still what popped up when I hit control V?)

:NAK Sorry for briefness!

I'm looking for more books to read with my 10 month old daughter, now and into the next few years (I want to have a list for people who ask what to get her for her 1st birthday). I know the children's authors that I enjoy from my own childhood, teaching, and that we've discovered with DD, and I've had fun searching around Amazon and the internet for good recommendations, but I'd like more tips on those books that normalize attachment parenting, breastfeeding, BWing, cosleeping, etc etc etc. I found some on API's site but I'm hoping that the wonderful MDC mamas have accumulated their own lists of great books. Any MUST have books rec's are appreciated, too!

Thanks!!!

So Okay the ones I love right now are...

Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?
Sandra Boynton's books, right now we only have The Going to Bed Book but it's funny and the end has a sweet poetry to it.
Hop on Pop
Any book with big photos, esp of baby faces!

We just discovered a new favorite, "On the Day You Were Born" by Debra Frasier. It is so touching.

All of the Ezra Jack Keats books.

Moths and Mothers, Feathers and Fathers: A Story About a Tiny Owl Named Squib by Larry Shles. I can not recommend this book enough. It's wonderful and so full of love.

So Much by Trish Cook reads so wonderfully and has the repetition young kids love. DS would just giggle away while I read this and squeezed him and hugged him just as the baby is squeezed and hugged in the book.

Forgot one:

Jack and Jill and Big Dog Bill (my son would have me read it over and over again. He laughed out loud each time. We had some great giggle fits over that book)

Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems
he also wrote the pigeon books

Rosemary Wells Carry Me -- a children's book that promotes the benefits of baby carrying! Also like the Ruby and Max books.

My favorite Sandra Boynton is Doggies - A Counting and Barking Book

Peter Rabbit, the Flopsy Bunnies and Story of a Fierce Bad Rabbit

(simple but intense -- needs a parental preview, I think) by Beatrix Potter

Lots of Maurice Sendak -- WHere the wild things are (though Max being sent to his room is not what we'd call Gentle Discipline), One was Johnny, Chicken Soup with Rice, even In the NIght Kitchen, which seems surreal to me, but my son loved it at the age of 3 and can still recite it.

This thread is awesome. I am completly clueless when it come to childrens books. I try and stay far, far away from the fairy tales of my youth...

I like the
"Spot" books (dog and friends)
Sandra Boynton books
Hairy McClairy Series by Lynley Dodd (New Zealand Author)
and we have a couple big board book with looks of full colour photos of babies doing thing, nature, animals, toys, etc that are popular with the baby (he points to the brush then rubs his hair, he smushes his fingers all over the photo of grass)

Robert McCloskey's classics, "Blueberries for Sal" and "Make Way for Ducklings."

The "Little Bear" books, and the "Frog and Toad" books.

And that's without even putting any thought into it.

I love everything by Shirley Hughes. Her illustrations are amazing and all 3 of my boys loved her realistic family life stories. A favorite is *Dogger*, I must have read this at least 100 times.

Time For Bed by Mim Fox

Good Night Gorilla

Strega Nona

The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry & The Big Hungry Bear

Jamberry

Everything by Cynthia Rylant! Mr. Putter & Tabby is our favorite series.

Check out www.chinaberry.com for the best of the best in children's books.
Be sure to request a catalog. Some of my best memories involve nursing a babe with a cup of tea while reading every page of the catalog.

Blessings,

They weren't doing anything, not really....

This book is a delight! We stumbled upon it a couple of months ago at our library, and ds received it for Christmas. The pictures are really wonderful, too.
